Black Friday 2019 Ad Release Timeline
If you’re gearing up for the holiday season, you’re probably thinking about shopping for gifts… and getting the best possible prices on those gifts, too.
You may even be wondering what kind of savings you can expect to see on Black Friday. Once you know what will be on sale, you can plan your shopping, so you might be chomping at the bit to see when the big retailers will release their ads...
Good news - we’ve done the research for you! By assessing when retailers have released their Black Friday ads in previous years, here are our predictions for when stores will release their ads for Black Friday 2019.
When To Expect 2019 Black Friday Ads
Black Friday ads usually start leaking about 6 weeks before Black Friday, with a steady increase up to the week before the big day. A few last minute ads will come out the week of Thanksgiving. This year since Black Friday is late in the month (Nov 29, 2019) we expect ads to start coming out slightly later, too.
Predicted Release Dates For Major Stores

If there’s a handyman (or handywoman) on your list this year, you’re in luck. The first major retail chain to release their Black Friday ad is usually Harbor Freight.
In the past, Dell, JCPenney, and Kohl’s have followed shortly thereafter. What’s cool about one of these early birds is that Kohl’s usually helps set the tone for the deals that will likely be available from the other big box stores. Also, their ad is pretty large and covers all categories. That means this is a good one to help start your planning on which product deals you should keep an eye on! You can browse Kohl's great doorbusters and a multitude of other deals in their 64-page Black Friday 2019 ad right now!
This year, Costco posted their Black Friday ad on October 30th, followed immediately by Belk and Kohl’s) the following day. Expect to see store ads start to release at a faster pace as we get closer to Thanksgiving.
During the 2-3 weeks before Black Friday, most of the major big box stores (such as Target, Best Buy, Walmart), and the other “big guys" will typically release their ads.
There’s a little competition among these retailers, too. Target has started to release their ad towards the early side of this group - last year, the Target ad came out a full week ahead of Walmart. This year, Target released their ad on November 6th. We expect Walmart won’t lag an entire week behind this year, so they may release their ad shortly after Target does. If Walmart does indeed release their ad earlier this year, we expect the others to be close behind.
Best Buy has released an online preview of many of their intended sales for Black Friday. This is not their usual print version of their Black Friday ad, which we expect will come out in the following week or so. However, this ad allows you to start planning and comparing prices with other stores.
Macy’s has also been releasing their ads earlier each year, so there's a good chance that they'll share their sales as early as November 12th if not sooner.
Last But Not Least
If none of those stores have sales that strike your fancy, don’t worry. A lot of stores (including smaller and more region-specific chains) actually release their ads the week prior to Black Friday. The biggest stores this week would be Home Depot, Amazon, and Lowe’s.
Amazon’s ad is one of the most anticipated. In addition to their advertised sales, they also usually have several daily flash deals during Cyber Week. You can find some great deals in these last minute ads because they may try to undercut stores that have already released their Black Friday sale prices. Convenience and great prices - it doesn’t get any better than that!
How To Stay Informed
Whether you’re heading out on Black Friday or waiting for Cyber Monday, the ads will announce official store and sales hours during Thanksgiving and the following week. This can help with planning your shopping trips.
